After 9-11 there was a collective judgment by most international leaders to make a distinction between Islam the Religion of Peace and Radical Islam. Some of us never made such a distinction. The nasty reactions to the cartoon issue is making that distinction hard to justify. The publishing of the cartoons in many European newspapers as an act of defiance is long delayed. What remains to be seen is whether that defiance will translate to action.
The United States and Briton have been at the forefront of the war on terror in spite of the sniping and condemnation of the rest of Europe. Now is the tome for the EU to show some remorse and resolve to come to our aid. I'm afraid that what we will get is them stirring the pot and leaving us to clean up the mess.
Aside from all that it remains that the problem is and has been Islam. To accept it as the "true Religion" is to accept that God is crushing our spirit rather that reviving it. To look at the Moslem world is to gaze at misery. As decedent as the west is there is more virtue in action than what is on exhibit in the Moslem world. The Palestinians are an example of the contrast. The west in spite of the near total depravity of Palestinian society has poured billions into the PA with no sign of appreciation, meanwhile the Arab world has used the Palestinians as cannon fodder for their vendetta against Israel. Look at any area of conflict in the world and the overwhelming likelihood is Islam is behind it.
How twisted is it that the final conflict could be sparked by cartoons.
