Mechwarrior Fanfiction: Tides of Change

Here’s some original Mechwarrior fanfic by Kevin Killiany hosted over on the Wizkids website. The short story is set in the Republic of the Sphere, primarily on Terra. The opening action takes place in 3135 in Germany and Geneva, and the writing seems pretty solid. I haven’t had a chance to read that much of it yet, but it seems like an enjoyable bit of fanfiction. I’m not a big fan of the Republic, but anything that gives me my Mechwarrior fix can’t be all bad, right?

German Mechwarrior Site

No Guts, No Galaxy! Proclaims the banner to this German Mechwarrior site. Personally, I think German is the ugliest language this side of Turkish. Germans are also the world’s worst tourists – they wake up at six am in order to steal all the good spots by the pool, and then never use them.

Nevertheless, some of you out there might like to visit the site. It has some graphics which don’t need translating, and a lot of you probably study German in school. Translating Mechwarrior from German has to be a lot more fun than translating Goethe. . .

Mechwarrior Fanfic: Field to Field by Jean Rabe

Here’s a taste of a good Mechwarrior short story hosted over on Wizkids:

” The ground shuddered and stone dust belched up from a crevice that grew wide and jagged like the maw of some ravenous beast. Thel waited for everything to settle, then she padded toward the crevice, which stretched roughly twenty meters long and a third as wide—a little larger than she had intended to create with the pentaglycerine charges.

She hated to scar a land already so terribly wounded, but it couldn’t be avoided. She needed to see what was buried below. It might help her employer, Izzel Devries, and thereby help all of Ozawa. Devries was the ruling family of the planet, and Thel had been working as young Izzel’s chief archeologist for nearly three years. She did her best to uncover inestimable relics of mass-destruction.

Should have used more precise charges, and smaller ones, she thought. She certainly wouldn’t need the other three she’d prepared, at least not up-top, and so she had carefully placed them on the seat of her rover. ”

Mechwarrior Fanfic: Are the Solaris VII games rigged?

Another jaunt into the fever swamps of Mechwarrior paranoia! Shadow and Wraith reveal in their latest edition that the Solaris gladiatorial games are in fact controlled by super-secret organizations such as the mafia, yakuza, etc. However, so many groups are rigging the mech combat on Solaris VII, that no one actually has any real control over them, and so the tournaments are genuine, in a fake kinda way. . .

Mechwarrior Conspiracy Theory Fanfic!

In this installment, Shadow and Wraith delve deep into the fever swamp of Mechwarrior conspiracy theory. The topic for this week is Ghost Knights “those rumored Knights of the Sphere who supposedly lurk in the shadows, watching us all, and reporting back to the Exarch who’s been naughty, and who’s been nice.”

In addition to some well-written banter between the two futuristic moonbats, the article also covers some of the various intelligence services within the Mechwarrior universe: “The Draconis Combine has its ISF, the Lyran Commonwealth have their Heimdall and Loki, the Federated Suns has MI5, and the Capellan Confederation has its Maskirovka.”

The two go on to elaborate a theory in which all of the various factions tearing apart the Republic of the Sphere – Draconis Combine, Stormhammers, Bannson’s Raiders, etc, are actually just puppets of the Republic, with Ghost Knight intelligence ops pulling their strings. It’s a fun bit of counterfactual history, really. . .
