Frenchman suing to enter women's golf tourney -- Cool!

I laughed when I read this -- it would be a Frenchman wanting to play women's golf.

At the same time though, I think it's brilliant. A double standard has existed for ages now wherein any specifically male space is impermissible and becomes instant lawsuit bait for feminist activists. The existence of a male-only club or organization is assumed to be anti-woman. The fact that it might have nothing to do with women at all, and instead just be that guys wanted to hang out doesn't get considered.

Compare that with the endless, tedious discussion of women's relationships, women's 'space', women's circles, ad nauseum by feminists. While male exclusivity is inherently bad, there is something noble and spiritual about women hanging out with one another.

Consider, for example, the frenzied activism to integrate VMI and the Citadel. Then watch the same feminists have fainting spells over proposals to integrate all-female colleges. Observe the sobbing over Augusta, yet women-only health clubs proliferate.

Women are now seeking admission into men's professional sports. I invite them in. And it's only fair for them to do the same with their own sports.

Considering the ease with which men would dominate these, guys would be crazy not to embrace this gender-bending egalitarianism. I wonder how these feminists would enjoy seeing the sensible shoe on the other foot.

I tend to agree with your take on this issue, although I'm a bit worried about one aspect and that's the dress code. For example, women who make it onto high school and college football teams have to wear the same uniform, so we should expect the reverse to occur where men are the new minority, right? I've got a disturbing mental image of a newly coed-ified women's tennis association.

Ha! The Frenchman has offered to shave his legs and wear a kilt, according to the article. This might actually be a way to get metrosexuals involved in sports. . .

Hey Disco,

Guess what? I agree with you here. Hooray! I have been wondering how long it will be before men rightly ask to be permitted to women's only health clubs. There does seem to be a double standard on the part of the women. I'd like to see how this case turns out for Monsieur Van de Velde. I wish him luck.

Regarding the dress code, I have a male friend who went through a skirt wearing phase. He is straight, married, and not at all metro. He wore skirts in the name of equality, and because he thought they were more comfortable. He ia also an artist so he tended to get away with it a little easier than if he were a business man. It's all very interesting. OOH! I just remembered - this friend of mine was of French descent. What a funny coincidence.

Miss-

I grew up with medieval fairs, and have a couple of kilts I wear from time to time. I must say that unbifurcated garments have it going on in the comfort department. :)

"Guess what? I agree with you here. Hooray!"

Ha! I knew it would happen eventually. . . :P

I actually have no problem at all with all-women clubs and the like. I just wish that activists would allow men the same consideration. There IS something valuable in gender-segregated social stuff. But the double standard these days is glaring. . .

Good to see you, btw. :)

hakama are a very good compromise--androgynous (now) and bifurcated in such a very loose way as to be quite as comfortable as one's robe (not being a kilt-wearer, myself).

Kendo, anyone?

I'll have a go at Kendo! Lookout all!

The lap-lap is a popular choice for the South Pacific. Very practical in the tropical climate. Still masculine & non bifucated - depending on how you wear it. It seems Westerners - with the exception of the Celtic kilt wearers - are really the most unpractical when it comes to dress. Perhaps we will see men in Tennis skirts in a more liberated and egalitarian future of fashion.
