While he wasn't as 'serious' an artist as some, Alphonse Mucha is one of my favorite things. This print hangs in our room:

One interesting thing about Mucha was how commercial much of his work was, including stage posters for Sarah Bernhardt and corporate advertising such as this:

The Duchess and I were able to visit St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague and see his amazing Art Nouveau stained glass window.

Here's a detail from the thing:

UPDATE:
PG Epps, that international man of mystery, has some good Prague shots at his place. . . here and here.
Yeah, St. Vitus' is a pretty interesting cathedral (I always end up saying "St. Guy's," 'cuz I overheard the tour in French while I was wandering about Prague Castle alone. Also, it's easier). I think the foundations dating back to the Roman era are pretty cool, and the interiors (you captured them well!) are spectacular.
I had a couple posts about the cathedral and the stained glass windows. Related Prague pics are nearby (look in Previous Posts on those posts).

As an art nouveau fan, was your favorite cathedral in Kiev the Vladimirskiy Sobor? It was easily my favorite on the inside.

I shall continue my shameless sycophancy and parasitism until--eh, until something or other happens. Probably lunch. :-)
Cheers!

PG-
Oh yeah, just sit back and wait for influx from my massive readership. Or something. :P
Connard!
It's been awhile... Hiya. Actually, I did like Vladimirskiy a lot, but it wasn't my favorite. The work I most appreciated was in the small chapel at the Lavra. Do you remember which one I mean -- it's low-ceilinged and dark and they sell books there. There were some lovely, soft-painted frescoes there that the Duchess and I appreciated a lot.
How have you been, btw?
Posted by: Discoshaman at décembre 13, 2005 10:28 PMWell, it ain't an Instalanche, but it definitely shows up as a big bump in *my* puny stats. :-)
Oh, you should go claim Religion of Peace in Blogshares (maybe tomorrow, it hasn't indexed yet). I submitted it 'cuz I want to make a fictional mint off trading in it.
Cheers,
PGE
I know exactly what you're talking about. And that WAS a neat chapel.
Doing fine, thanks. Back in the states, missing the expat life generally, and Kiev specifically.
