The Democratic Party is little more than a tribal confederation (of which we'll speak more in future posts.) The idea of a Dem Contract with America seems unrealistic not only because it would require fresh-sounding ideas, but because it would demand an element of unity.
While the R's remain almost entirely unified on the war, Iraq continues to split the Dems. WasTimes writes today that 'Democratic split on war pleases GOP.'
This GOPer would be happier if they all supported the war. But I am thankful that some of the moderates are willing to stand for common sense. There's a genuine rift between the netroots and the grown-ups in the Dem Party. You can see it on display in Kos's daily rants about the DLC -- today we have this and this. Given the Clintons' close association with the DLC, that should make life interesting in 2008.
