Democrats talk a lot about progessive taxation and the like. Yet generally when I see a lottery being proposed its a Democratic governor behind it.
Can you imagine a more regressive form of fundraising? Or one more cynical?
Every person I've known who spends more than a $100 a month on tickets has been either lower working class or outright working poor. Every one. How cynical is it to finance government by dangling the scant hope of riches in front of people to whom every dollar is precious? Better to scale back government than fund it on the back of those least able to pay.
