In 1997, here was the per death spending for three types of disease:
Breast Cancer - $12,800 per death
AIDS - $47,000 per death
Prostate cancer - $2,700 per death
Things have improved a lot by 2002:
Cervical Cancer - $21,000
Breast Cancer - $13,203.55 per death
AIDS - $16,000 per death
Prostate cancer - $9,700 per death
Cancers with cute ribbons soak up something like 2-3 times the amount of funding less politically blessed cancers do. Pity those with unprogressive diseases such as lung cancer - $1400 per death.
So spread those prostate ribbons, boys! It's your tail on the line.
