Insight Magazine states that "East Asia allies doubt U.S. could win war with China. The overwhelming assessment by Asian officials, diplomats and analysts is that the U.S. military simply cannot defeat China."

It quotes only a single source, the Governor of Tokyo. I think their claim about 'overwhelming assesment' is pure bunk. They have this guy, and I personally doubt much else.

This man is such a genius that he talks about the US ground forces being unable to withstand Chinese wave assaults. Since the only reasonable flashpoint is Taiwan, is he talking about literal waves? It's a flippin' island.

Any potential defense of Taiwan will involve carrier battle groups and submarine launched cruise missiles, not the 82nd Airborne. We can also see his sheer cluelessness in his claim that "U.S. ground forces, with the exception of the Marines, are "extremely incompetent"

Anyone with a modicum of military insight realizes that the per capita lethality of our ground troops is unparalleled in human history. He wants to point up the current situation in Iraq as evidence. If he can't comprehend the difference between low-intensity conflict and a massed conventional assault, he shouldn't be sounding off. Our army excels most at destroying conventional units -- ask the Republican Guard.

Our Asian allies aren't stupid. At any rate, their military analysts are not. The Chinese are still several years from challenging our supremacy in the region, particularly as regards Taiwan.

If there is anything to be taken from the article, it's the Governor's reasoning for believing us weak:

"After 2,000 casualties, he said, the U.S. military would be forced to withdraw."

If there is such a perception of weakness, it's thanks to the MSM, the Dems, and Cindy Sheehan.
