Le Sabot News Bits

1. Keep Disco in Grad School -- Click an ad.

I'm not one for tip jars; it doesn't seem right to hit readers up for donations. But we do have ads here. If you like the place, please click an ad each day when you stop by. It adds up. :-)

2. I'm looking for contributing writers for Religion of Peace?

I'm finding the job of keeping two blogs going to be too much. I'm looking for about 4-5 supporters of the war interested in contributing. They would be free to write original posts, cross-post stuff from their own blog, or simply paste up news items relevant to the War on Terror. Hard-edged is fine, but it's important to keep the tone of the place steady -- so no shrill or angry writers need apply.

It could be a good opportunity for you to express your opinions and garner some attention for your own blog, as well. Please only email if you're truly interested. Email: discoshaman -at- gmail.com If you can, send along a few links to warblogging you've done before.

3. Not feeling the link-love?

My blogroll is awfully out of date. If you've been nice enough to link us and we haven't reciprocated, email us. It might be that we think you're a bad person or writer. But it's more likely just an oversight. . . You'll never know 'til you ask!

I link to you, Disco, but I don't know if my blog is serious enough to be linked to yours. I'm linked to Tulipgirl, which is an honor enough in and of itself.

In addition to the ads, why don't you add a paypal donation link? Couldn't hurt!

Hi Kim!

Sorry for the oversight, I'll definitely get on it. :)

Carol-

I might at some point, but I just don't like the idea of one for Le Sabot. I'd rather Chitika Minimalls pay for things than my readers. . . Though I'm not judging people who do have tip jars. Or homeschool. ;)

I'd be happy to be a Contributor to Religion of Peace?, as long as it's understood that the exposé and critique of Islamofascism (much of the phenomena of which were, until recently and inaccurately, called simply "Islamism" or "Islamicism") is not the same as lumping all/most Muslims into that category, which lumping is a subChristian practice and a sin against the neighbor of another religion. We shouldn't lose sight of God's Common Grace in the Good Muslim. I have two such friends, who have blessed me deeply at certain moments in my life.

I run a little RSS Calendar item called "Political Events" that tries to list all upcoming democratic election campaigns and votes around the world, and have fallen into keeping a special eye on Southeast Europe (where a number of states will emerge either with Muslim majorities or large Muslim minorities - as a part of EU eventually - Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, and Albania). Political Events also runs as a monthly calendar in the right-hand column on the blog refWrite where I work with Owlb, Anaximaximum, and Owlie Scowlie, and which links for sometime now to Le Sabot post-Moderne.

There's a somewhat fictional element to these varous blogonyms, which are part of a longterm branding process, I hope. Anaximaximum, for instance, has quoted you on his poetry blog of that name, in the "Poetry News" section in his right-hand column, but will not be linking to Religion of Peace?, as Anaximaximum is limited strictly somewhat to poetry. But all the familiares at refWrite have agreed to link-up also to RoP? via Blogrolling.com;and have agreed to my participation in Religion of Peace? if you want me as a Contributor. - Politicarp

PS Sorry for communicating via a Comment, but I couldn't find an email address for you on your blogs.

Politicarp-

Thanks so much for writing in. . . The email is in the upper left hand corner under 'email the Discoshaman' if you ever need to get hold of me. :)

I'll email you this evening with more detail about my views on the nature of Islam, etc, and we can see to what extent our ideas are compatible. I certainly wouldn't want you to offend your conscience.

Talk with you soon!

Politicarp:

Of course not all Muslims are terrorists or Islamofacists. We can stipulate that.

An author friend of mine is a former professor of Islamic history at the top Muslim university in Cairo. He went through a long and comlicated conversion journey from Islam and that ended after a number of years with him accepting Christ. He has now written four successful books on the relationship between Islam and terrorism and is an advisor to several government agencies and think tanks on the subject. He has a fatwah on him and publishes under a psuedonymn. Anyway, this friend and I have had several long dinners together and I've learned a lot from him. Relevant here is this thought: while not all muslims are terrorists, the more faithful they are to the Koran the more accepting they are of terrorism. He stresses that the Religion of Peace/Fatwah is a process of moral betterment brand of Muslims are liberal muslims: equivalent to liberal Christians who question the miracles of Jesus and redefine the Resurrection as a story about moral renewal.

The point: while not all Muslims are terrorists, and not even all fundamental/believing Muslims are terrorists, Islam is a religion that -- taken at face value -- DOES lead to its followers at best tolerating and at worst supporting -- war against the Jews and Western Civilization.

Also this. About a year ago or so an editor of a major newspaper in the Middle East (can't remember the reference, sorry) made this sad concession: while not all muslims today commit terrorism, all of the terrorism in the world today is commited by muslims.

I know this comment does not go as deep to the heart of the matter as the previous comments made on this page. However, I thought I might mention a recent encounter I had. I was touched yesterday when on leaving my mobile phone in a public place it was returned to me by a Muslim lady. For a few minutes I felt like we had transcended religious differences and met as people. It was nice and it gave me hope.

It's got to be hard being a Muslim in today's cultural climate. I know that middle eastern children at schools are doing it tough - some of them are not even Muslim. I'm all for not lumping all Muslims into the one basket.
