MTV's Rock the Casbah

I was listening to The Clash today and had an idea. With 'Rock the Vote' such a habitual failure, maybe MTV could use its powers for good, not evil. We need more Arabic and Farsi MTV channels.

According to this document, the "boogie sound" has the ability to "degenerate the faithful with that crazy Casbah sound." Imagine if during the daily temple rants against Israel and the Crusaders, "the crowd caught a whiff of that crazy Casbah jive. . ." One thing's for sure in this -- the Shereef don't like it. Fundamentally he can't take it. You know he really hates it.

One of the 'root' causes of Islamism is a reactionary response to encroaching Pop culture and mores. It'll be interesting to see if the Enlightenment and Pop culture eventually undermine Islamic fervor the way they did Christianity's. Much as it pains me, I'm rooting for Madonna over the muezzins in this one.

As the old song says, how are you gonna keep 'em down on the maddrassah after they've seen MTV?

Keywords: Iran, Iranian policy

I love this post!!! The most fun thing that I have heard or done today. I want to say something witty in response, but it escapes me to think what it might be.

Disco, you rock -- the casbah and the blogosphere.

"It'll be interesting to see if the Enlightenment and Pop culture eventually undermine Islamic fervor the way they did Christianity's."

If it couldn't be done with 'Midnight at the Oasis' perhaps it will never be done. Ooh! Maybe Madonna could release a new version...

Wow. "Midnight at the Oasis" . . . shades of my junior high days of listening covertly to the local easy-listening station, hoping I won't get snared by any devil-music.

Not sure I could actually cheer on MTV's version of gelding, but this does remind me of Sun Tzu's advice to undermine the enemy's morale by sending prostitutes into his camp. . . .

Not sure that speaks well of our culture.

Cheers,
PGE

Beam Meatloaf's "I Would Do Anything for Love... But I Won't Do That" down on them from a satellite.

Lacking the benefits of modern consumer culture, they probably don't have tinfoil readily available and won't be able to construct suitable personal defenses.

Then, once the song is stuck in their heads, they will get stuck in a perpetual state of puzzlement wondering just what the "It" is that Meatloaf won't do for love.

That's when we send in the Marines.

Great plan! I have one question though, no make that two...

1)What is the tinfoil for? (I know, I'm not defence savvy.)

& 2)Does anyone know what the "it" is Meatloaf is singing about?

I have pondered this question before and have come up answerless.

Miss,

1) You make the tinfoil into a hat. It blocks the rays that the government is always trying to beam into your brain. You're studying psychology and they didn't teach you this? What do you learn in those crummy Australian univesities? How to put shrimp on the barbie?

2) I've never figured what the "that" is that Meatloaf won't do for love. I, too, have pondered this at length, which is why I think the song would be such a debilitating weapon on the evildoers. Looking at Meatloaf, about the only thing I figure he wouldn't do for love is have a SlimFast for breakfast and a salad for lunch.

In Australia, tinfoil on your head attracts magpies. I don't recommend it.
We like to elude government scrutiny by pretending to be apathetic. Thus the expression: "She'll be right, Mate." BBQing shrimps (aka "Prawns" downunder) also contributes to this laid back image we like to project - just to keep everyone guessing.

It seems you have come up with a solid plan to confound the enemy. Well done cu buffalo 86. Your Meatloaf idea is gold.

I just caught the remainder of this convo. You're both mad. Glad to have you around here. . .
