I scored at the library sale today. Dollar books, one of the great aspects of American life. . .
1. Salman Rushdie: Midnight's Children. The Booker people call this the best book in 25 years.
2. Ha Jin: Waiting.
3. Milan Kundera: The Joke.
4. Oxford Book of Romantic Period Verse.
5. Anais Nin: Winter of Artifice.
6. Ernest Hemingway: A Farewell to Arms.
7. Jorn Donner: The Films of Ingmar Bergman.
8. Edith Wharton: The House of Mirth.
9. Sean Hannity: Deliver us from Evil.
10. John Brinnin: Modern Poets. 'Modern' here means 1963. It has a big mugshot of Ginsburg center-cover.
11. Howard Zinn: Terrorism and War. Just to keep up with what the traitorous wing of the Democratic Party is thinking.
12. William Hatcher: John Jasper, The Unmatched Black Philosopher and Preacher. This is by Sprinkle Publications, a great little publisher that reprints Southern Presbyterian classics.

I know the guy who runs Sprinkle Publications - he's my fiance's pastor. At least I'm pretty sure it's him - how many Sprinkle Publications can there be? Small world.
Posted by: jen at novembre 18, 2005 04:44 PMSo, which one will you read first?
Posted by: missmellifluous at novembre 19, 2005 12:58 AMDefinitely the Rushdie. And the modern poets. :) Which one did you like best?
Posted by: Discoshaman at novembre 19, 2005 05:09 PMMmmm. It's a hard choice. I always love poetry, so I'm tempted to say the poetry anthologies, but I read the first couple of pages and the back cover of Edith Wharton: The House of Mirth, and found it to be quite intriguing. I do love a good novel of manners, especially when it is critical of high society, and true virtue/nobility and the like. So, I think that is the one I like best.
You found some great books! I love the 2nd hand book sales - such gold going so cheap. It's always very exciting.
