Weird Justice -- The coming confirmation battle

Schumer and his ilk are 'going to war' before a nominee is even announced for the Supreme Court. This is probably a typical Washington tit-for-tat thing, right? I mean, Republicans did the same thing when Clinton was in office -- slandering and borking Clinton's nominees for the high court. Forcing them to answer specific questions about hypothetical cases. . .

Except they didn't. In fact, Ginsburg refused to answer many questions entirely. Sen. Hatch politely dropped them.

Likely though, that was because Clinton chose the sort of moderates that Dems are demanding from Bush.

Except he didn't. Ruth Bader Ginsburg was general counsel of the American Civil Liberties Union. This is a woman who "had previously written that traditional marriage laws are unconstitutional; that the Constitution guarantees a right to prostitution; that the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Mother's Day, and Father's Day are all discriminatory institutions; that courts should force taxpayers to pay for abortions, against their will; and that the age of consent for sexual activity should be lowered to age 12."

Clinton likely followed the course demanded by the Democrats today -- maintaining the ideological balance of the court by replacing like with like.

Except he didn't. Byron White, a solid conservative, was replaced by a doctrinaire liberal.

Given all of these factors, it's no wonder that Republicans ignored the long tradition of voting on a judge's qualifications instead of his or her politics. It was probably a party-line vote.

Except it wasn't. Ruth Bader Ginsburg was approved by a 96-3 vote.

Another example of Democratic hypocrisy.
