I'm against disrespect to the Quran by the military. Both because it doesn't help us in the war on terror, and out of basic civility -- treating others with respect and all that. However. . .
It's instructive to watch the fervor with which many on the Left have fixated on Quran mishandlings in Gitmo. Left-oriented journalists have loved poking a stick in the US military's eye since Vietnam. But I believe for many this isn't just a political tactic. Many people really are Outraged! about the whole thing. Outraged! The thought that someone's religion would be disrespected sets the Liberal's self-flagellation machine on "liquefy".
And this was just a little mishandling of the Religion of Peace's holy book, most of it accidental.
Imagine the Outrage! if someone had put a crescent in a vat of pee and called it "Crescent in Piss." Or if someone smeared feces on a representation of Mohammad. Or if someone wore a Muslim holy symbol in a music video with lots of un-Muslim-like behavior going on. . . Or if someone referred to American Muslims in a prestigious American newspaper as "poor, undereducated, and easily led." Imagine Dead Like Me using Mohammad's name as a curse at least once an episode, and treating F-ing like his middle name.
All these are considered fair play when it comes to Christians and their holy symbols.
And the Left sees no hypocrisy in this.
When is defamation not defamation and 'abuse' not abuse? Apparently, when it's happening to a group you really, really don't like.
