This particular term of service in Ukraine is drawing to an end. As such, we're crazy busy transitioning ministry work over to Ukrainian friends, saying a temporary good-bye to our beloved city, and preparing for re-entry to the States. I'll be doing some graduate work in the States, and then we'll be heading back across the Pond again. Like I said, this is a mad time, so I've decided to step back from blogging for about five weeks.
My plan is to drop you all an email when Le Sabot is back in business. If you're interested, please send me an email with the title "Blog Notification" to discoshaman@saintly.com
I look forward to coming here every day. I'm definitely going to miss you all during this brief sabbatical.
Your pal,
Disco
Say it ain't so - but thanks for the great work in Kyiv!
Your work was (and is) a necessary part of the Orange Revolution.
Posted by: blackminorcapullets at février 26, 2005 06:42 PMHow long will you be in the states?
Posted by: Joyce at février 26, 2005 07:20 PMGood heavens! Ukraine's loss is our gain, though, and I'm sure the LORD will jealously guard the good work you've begun in His name and for His glory.
Amazing how as soon as the Orange Revolution took place, your time in Ukraine came to an end. What a blessing and encouragement your blog was during that time!
Puts me in mind of the bit in Esther where Mordecai tells her, "And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?"
Okay, maybe your position didn't exactly qualify as royalty, but the "you were there for that season and reason" angle works. :^)
Don't suppose you'll be coming to Texas?
Thank you for your excellent coverage of the Orange Revolution. I have no doubt your contributions to people in Kyiv were equally vital. May you have a safe and pleasant trip.
The Best is yet to come!

Posted by: One Eyed Cat at février 26, 2005 08:16 PMThank you for what you have done and been. In the too brief time that I have become aware of your blog, I've been inspired by the adventure you have lived out, and the skill and insight and humor and -- heck, just plain fun that this blog has been! When I'm not traveling it's on my browser and through the day I click it often to check the status of the conversation here.
Would love to know more about your plans, where you'll be studying and so forth. I'll be anxiously awaiting the return of your blog.
Blessings,
Greg
Posted by: Greg at février 26, 2005 09:47 PMWill miss your postings a great deal. Your 'voice' is an amazing one. See you soon - after all five weeks is not that long? Au revoir for now.
Posted by: Hello at février 26, 2005 11:38 PMDisco,
I would like to echo the thoughts already posted. The Orange Revolution would not have been the same experience for me without your blog. The photos, the personal anecdotes, the cherry-picking of the best news reports.... You exemplified bloggy goodness.
I also second Greg's motion for more info about what you'll be doing in the states... if you feel like telling us.
All the best. And I can't wait to read the book.
Posted by: Joe St at février 27, 2005 03:54 AMI am going to miss you and the Duchess. God bless and God speed you and all who sail in you!
Christians never say goodbye!
Posted by: Brian Greenwell at février 27, 2005 06:05 AMI thought I could be an adult about this but it less than 24 hours since I got the news and NOOOOOOO, don't go! Don't leave me here with the liberal interpretations of life and events in Ukraine. Okay, I feel better, my 'child' has expressed itself.
Truly, you have had a major impact on my life over the course of the past few months and coming to this site for my 'fix' on events and politics in Ukraine, as well as the photos, and your openess in expressing your thoughts. I thank you for your courage in being so open and your commitment to this blog and its readers. It is wonderful that you are pursuing your goals and from the bottom of my heart, my very best to you, your wife and your children. Thank you and God bless. I too, look forward to your upcoming book.
"Disco for President"! "Disco for President"!
Posted by: Hello at février 27, 2005 09:13 AMC'mon now! Would you expect me to go without my morning coffee for five weeks? Severe withdrawal symptoms would be the result; can feel them already in this case of your hiatus.
Hurry back!
Bring some clothespins when you come back over. You'll need them for your nose. Some sectors of American society, and particularly the Church, reek.
Posted by: Bud Brown at février 27, 2005 11:01 PMEnjoy your time back in the States. How long will you be back?
I'll be heading back from Japan to Waco in August. I look forward to feeling assaulted by rude Americans at every turn of my reverse culture-shock. :-)
I also hope the Lord will send me back to my church friends here, someday, though how or to what end He might do that remains . . . for Him to reveal (or not).
Do drop me an e-mail (you can see my address from the comment notification, n'est-ce pas?) when the site comes back up, so I can celebrate. Do also let me know if, this Fall, you'll be anywhere within striking distance of Texas. I'd love to buy you a drink, or lunch, and hear more of your story--with a face on it.
Cheers,
PGE
Thanks for all that you've done to bring the Orange Revolution to us here back in the States.... Good luck with your studies.
Posted by: John K. at février 28, 2005 06:08 PMYou will be missed! Good luck with all the changes!
I'll keep you in Bloglines so I will know when you're back online.
May God bless you and your family!
Disco,
Best of luck to you. Though we have never met, and we certainly should have, I feel like we have a lot in common - and not just because we are two expats that went through a revolution together. Good luck with your studies and I hope to meet you the next time you are in Ukraine.
Cheers,
Patrick Dodd
Thank you for all the great posts! Have a good time in the States,
Valerie
Posted by: Valerie at mars 1, 2005 01:55 PMI also must thank you for helping me better realize the beauty and the grit of the Orange Revolution. I was pointed to your blog by Andrew Sullivan's, and checked in every day from then on.
Enjoy the break.
Posted by: Jason Judy at mars 1, 2005 07:48 PMYou're a good guy Disco. Even if I was first directed here for the Ukraine updates, I stayed at times even for the theology debates. Not to mention, you and the Orange Revolution were the inspiration for me to start my own blog. Thank you for that.
Posted by: Robert Mayer at mars 2, 2005 03:16 AMSo many discussion to have and no forum in which to have them. I look forward to your return; if you have a stopover in Prague, send me an email!
Posted by: leftthecapitol at mars 2, 2005 10:55 AMDisco,
thank you so much for all the informed, intelligent and personal debates you've hosted that I've been witness to over the last few months, and all the very best for the next stage in your life,
Let us know what your plans are, if you would. One of my friends (someone who accompanied me on both my sojourns to Ukraine) expressed grave disappointment at news of your blog break. I'll add myself to that as well. Be good while you are out of the public spotlight :)
Posted by: Paul Baxter at mars 2, 2005 08:28 PMWell, I can't do more than agree with the praises that have already been sung for you. Hurry back to the blogosphere! And if you end up back in the general vicinity of central Fl, let's talk theology over a good cigar sometime.
