magic beans

Sublime things need no justification. The Victoria Falls, Mucha's stained glass, and the 1968 Chevelle Super Sport need serve no purpose -- it is enough that they exist. Coffee belongs to this category.

Nevertheless, it was nice to read today's news that it's a prophylactic against liver cancer. This on top of protecting against Parkinsons. Thanks to coffee, not only am I peppier than thou, but my liver is more durable too.

I'll nominate the '69 Vette Stingray over that Chevelle Super Sport any day now...

That's interesting news about coffee, though I don't know how common liver cancer is.

Good grief, that Mucha stained glass window is stunning! And I thought my shot of Saint Chapelle's stained glass was glorious, but it doesn't compare.

I really love Art Nouveau. Too bad it's about the only art style that has not had a renaissance in recent years. My wife and I wanted to update our dining room and do it in Art Nouveau style, but finding ANYTHING current in that style is a lesson in frustration.

BTW, what church is that with the Mucha? It's not in the Ukraine, is it? I thought all his large scale work was in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

steve-

There are a lot of other great cars from that time I could name. My dad had a 68 Chevelle SS, and I've always planned on buying one just as soon as my rich uncle gets out of the poor house.

DLE-

That's St. Vitus Cathedral. It's the castle cathedral in Prague, the one that dominates the view from the Charles Bridge. In person the glass is even more amazing. I stood and stared at it for ages. (The photo isn't mine btw, I was too lazy to pay the photography fee.)

I'm so jealous you got to see St. Chapelle. We were there during one of the periodic workers' strikes, and couldn't get admitted. Quel drag.

It's nice to meet a fellow Art Nouveau fan, btw. You're right that it's one of the few movements that hasn't come back into vogue along the way. You should definitely hit Prague when you can and see the Mucha museum. Amazing. Did you hit the Musee D'Orsay when you were in Paris, btw? No Mucha there, but they have a few rooms decorated with gorgeous Art Nouveau furnishings.

If I could ever find/afford it, the Duchess and I would like to do our flat in the style. The organic feel of it is great.

A strengthened liver from coffee? Well, I guess that counterbalances the effect of your amaretto cherries. That is, unless your coffee is also Irish!
