Pray! Sick kiddo here. . .

I came home from work today to find that Tennyson, my seven year old, was having trouble breathing. He'd had a cough for a few days, but since it's winter we'd assumed it was a cold. It took a more serious turn today.

They've admitted him to a research hospital, and x-rays confirmed he has pneumonia. The Duchess is with him now -- we'll be alternating shifts there for the next 5-7 days. There's a possibility we'll need to evacuate him to a country with a more modern health system.

He was pretty scared when we said goodbye this evening. Please be in prayer both for his health and for his time in the hospital. Also pray for me as I navigate the medical establishment here, which is still more than a little Soviet. Thanks.

Hi, just wanted to let you I'll pray for your son. I'm a college student in Texas who spent the summer of 2003 in Kiev and started reading your blog during the revolution...and I've loved reading the stories about your sons as well! I know it must be scary to have a child that sick, especially in Kiev. God bless...

I hope he'll get better very soon and there'll be no need to either stay at a Kyiv hospital or take him elsewhere.

My warmest wishes to you and your family,
Veronica

Tulipgirl, Discoshaman -
may I offer my best wishes for your son. This is a serious illness. Blackminorcapullets is right. If there are any obstacles you may try to get antibiotics by aircourier - since you are in Kiev, maybe the US embassy could also be of assistacne. Finally there's always Vienna....

Tennison - Get well soon !

Disco,

Praying for you. By the way, did you know there are a few more-or-less western-style clinics in Kiev? Some are more, some are less. Once my son was sick in Kiev and he got very good care from a clinic not far from Lukyanivska metro. Not that expensive, considering.

God bless.

Joe St-

Yep, that's the American Medical Clinic -- Yushchenko was treated there initially for the dioxin. Unfortunately, they outsource for hospitalization. . . I'm talking to Borys Clinic today, because they have a small hospital. We'll see if they work with this sort of thing. Thanks for the advice, btw.
