More nonsense from the Euro Left on Ukraine

Apparently deciding that building a classless society is too complicated, one Spanish Socialist has opted instead for classless behavior. Euro Parliament President Fontelles is the latest reminder of the basic contempt much of the Euro Left feels for both Eastern Europe and the United States.

Reports have filtered out about comments he made in the aftermath of the Revolution.

"Borrell had been speaking at a closed-door session of an economic forum in Madrid in December when he supposedly said the Ukrainian crisis was resolved thanks to EU efforts and not because of mediation on behalf of Aleksander Kwasniewski and Valdas Adamkus. Poland and Lithuania, claimed Borrell, had not been instrumental and had essentially been 'under U.S. control' while negotiating a settlement between the two sides in the conflict."

The EU's Solana did good work during this thing. But Poland was instrumental, especially in preventing bloodshed in the early days. And while people here respect the EU, they feel a kinship with Poland. The idea that they were somehow under US control is totally unsubstantiated, and a base form of smear.

It's instructive that Fontelles can turn something as unambiguously good as a fight for democracy into a cheap shot at both Eastern European and American allies. It would be nice to imagine his mentality is an isolated case, but I'm not much for wishful thinking.
