This summer was the best of our lives, with project after project to keep us busy. But by autumn Alexandra and I were both starting to get frazzled. So it was a real blessing that our vacation and our visa renewals came up one after another. I've now achieved a sort of overcooked Zen noodle level of relaxation.
Here's me, Alexandra and the yellow-haired monkeys at the pyramids:
It was amazing -- snorkeling in the Red Sea, visting the City of the Dead and Cairo. . . The boys were able to see the treasures of King Tut and ride a camel. Pretty much an ideal homeschooling vacation.
And this is the Charles Bridge and St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. St. Vitus features the world's most beautiful stained glass -- an Art Nouveau window done by Alphonse Mucha himself. The Duchess and I spent 5 days in the Czech Republic for visa renewal -- the first time we've been away from the kids in 8 years. (Unless you count a night in Hashbury in San Fran.)
Prague is the only city I've seen that gives Paris a run for its money. I wanted to like Budapest better, but I have to give the prize to Prague. A great, and inexpensive alternative to Western Europe (and no Euro exchange rates!)

Great pictures, what a wonderful summer.
Glad you are back blogging.

Posted by: Jon at octobre 27, 2004 02:30 AMA Hungarian pastor friend confirms that Prague is more beautiful than Budapest. From the Magyar's mouth, so it must be true.
Posted by: alan at octobre 27, 2004 01:51 PMJust how many times can you tease us with a post, then disappear for weeks on end, and expect us to keep showing up here, waiting for another post?
Well, a lot, apparently! ;-)
Welcome back (I've got you syndicated now, so no more unrequited hits for you!).

Glad to see you had such a wonderful time. I once knew a young lady from Olomouc, CZ who begged me to come and see Prague, alas I never had the finances to make it there.
Maybe when the wife and I retire we'll make our way there.

Thanks for stopping by, and for the update on your site. I'll correct the link. . .

Budapest is great too, though. I could happily settle in either of them.
Eric!
I'm sorry. . . I almost euthenized Le sabot this summer for that very reason. But I decided to wait for winter and see what happened. I don't have any more interruptions scheduled, so I think everything SHOULD be back to normal from here on out. Thanks for your patience. :)
Rong-
It is an incredibly romantic city. In most cities, there are beautiful places one can visit. In Prague, the entire place is gorgeous, and you just wander through it all. Go!
Posted by: Discoshaman at octobre 28, 2004 01:17 AMHaven't seen Prague, but the folks in L'viv said the two are similar. Downtown L'viv was gorgeous, but you could see the new architecture around the outer parts of town.
Posted by: Paul Baxter at octobre 28, 2004 04:59 AMWhen a (Polish) friend and I went to Paris, he continually compared the city to Prague. "Oh, this is nice! - But it's not Prague."
Welcome back, again.
Posted by: John at octobre 30, 2004 03:41 AMGlad you're back. The family picture is great! What an experience for your boys!
