An idea whose time has come...

If there was ever a group calling out for a tribute band, it's They Might Be Giants. We could call our group -- They Might Be They Might Be Giants. I know, it sounds crazy, but just let the idea marinade a bit.

I knew there was something questionable about you that I couldn't quite put my finger on.

I recently discovered that an old friend of mine from college directed a movie about them. I presume its a documentary/concert type thing. Ever seen it or heard of it?

Jacques-

If THIS was the post that convinced you of that fact, you haven't been reading my blog carefully enough. ;)

John R-

I haven't seen it, but I'd definitely be interested in doing so. TMBG has been one of my favorite bands for more years than I can remember. Even when I was limiting my musical purchases to 'classic' punk, I still listened to TMBG pretty avidly. They, the Violent Femmes, Bauhaus and sundry punk bands formed the soundtrack of my adolescence.

Here's a fact that will shock you- I'm familiar with these dudes. In fact, I have a tape around here somewhere with some of their songs on it. Wow, I might just be human after all!

Following Bill's logic: further confirmation that I am probably not human. I've never heard of them.

Really? That's ducky! I'm watching your progress, and just really pleased with it. Keep checking in here, and I think you'll achieve Pop Culture Maven status in no time!

Check out some of the free downloads. They're a lot of fun -- light, playful, ironic. They sing songs about shoehorns with teeth, why Constantinople is now Istanbul, about the sun being a mass of incandescent gas/a gigantic nuclear furnace...

Anyone who has lines like, "Though I respect that a lot, I'd be fired if that were my job, after killing Jason off and countless screaming Argonauts..." can't be all bad. :-)

So, have your heard of Hayward Banks? he's just about as strange. does songs that tribute the Garden Weasel and such.

Just for you:

I'm Lincoln.

Leave the nite light on inside the Birdhouse in your soul)

I'm Apollo. It says, "Aren't you so happy?" If somebody can tell me a little about Apollo, I'll know whether I should be happy or not. :-D

Lincoln never rocked my world the way others have. I got Factory Showroom. The Duchess was They Might Be Giants, which was the one I'd been hoping for. Guess I should have checked that I was crazy. :-)

Hayward Banks sounds like my kind of weirdo. :) I'll have to check him out the next time I'm not in a land where Michael Jackson is still considered a highly relevant artist.

In my youth, I can remember going into the men's room at the Ratthskeller (spelling probably wrong, it was known at the ratt), and seeing several grafittis: "They'll never be giants"

It was certainly the most witty graffiti, and contained no genitalia pictures.

My husband Steve really, really likes They Might Be Giants. He frequently plays their songs on his iBook for the amusement of our children. They did the theme song for a show called "Malcolm in the Middle" called "You're Not the Boss of Me Now." That show, like the little girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead, when it is good it is very, very good, and when it is bad, it is horrid.
