Various and Sundry Good Things!

Le Sabot might be a little slow this week. My sainted mother, my aunt and my little brother all just flew in last night from the States. We spent the afternoon downtown with the rest of the city, celebrating Ukrainian Independence Day... I'll post something new this evening, but overall the pace here will be a little less breakneck than usual.

Almost as exciting as the arrival of my blood relatives was the package they brought with them -- 15 CDs of anime, including the entire collection of Ranma 1/2 videos and OAVs. With the exception of J-Pop MP3s and a few badly dubbed 80's-era videos, I've been on an enforced anime fast. Such joy is now mine!

A final note to congratulate a friend on entering the ranks of Blogdom. Everyone be sure to check out his musings over at Theognome's Thoughts. To crib a line from an old peanut butter advert, 'With a name like Theognome, it's gotta be good.'

'With a name like Theognome, it's gotta be good.'

I think so. :*) But I'm biased!!!

Aw, shucks.

Hey Disco, you sound like a true Japanamation fan. In my single days in Tucson Az, I had quite a collection myself. The only survivors of that collection are some poor VHS copies of Akira and Fist of the North Star. I do like Ranma 1/2 though.

That was jelly: "With a name like Smucker's, it's got to be good!" :-)

But yea verily, the blogosphere has been kicked up a notch.

Ah, you are quite correct, Mr. Badonicus. I reviewed the several threads over at LG where I was writing concerning race issues and other such, and you are correct. I did not specifically present directly to you dozens of Biblical arguements. In fact, I directed almost no arguements directly towards your person, but rather presented my positions more generally. The Bad Manners thread, for example, did not dialogue with you, though I did present biblical principles in several posts there.

So I would encourage anyone who gives a rip to check out that thread, the 'rejoicing over the civil rights movement' thread, and any other over on LG just to see the kind of boldfaced liar that I am.

Penta-

Really? I only ever ate the peabut butter/jelly swirl... :-P

Theo-

We'll all just consider the source, man. Badonicus is a person who over the course of 4 threads could only muster a Churchill quote and a statistic about black inmates in Florida. He likes to present himself as some sort of Racism Almanac, but reality is something different. Don't even worry about him.

Fist of the Northstar was fun... I was always the giant mecha/monsters destroying Tokyo/mad martial artists type. Ranma was my first foray into the funny stuff, but I really do like Rumiko's work a lot.

All-

I'd encourage everyone to ignore Badonicus. In the future, anything he writes is going to be deleted.

Have a wonderful time with your family! It must be so exciting and rare to have visits like that! Enjoy!!

Posted by: Carol at août 25, 2003 04:01 PM

Thanks, Carol! My mom came to visit this very week last year. And having John's mom, aunt and brother here has been so wonderful. I'm amazed at how much of the family news we are missing, even though we e-mail somewhat regularly.

It's also been very refreshing. . . We went on a boat cruise on the Dneiper with the church's Student Fellowship group. It was amazing seeing how green our city looks from the water.
